Madrid’s iconic Cibeles Fountain in the Plaza de Cibeles.

Spain’s bustling capital is home to more than three million people, making it the third largest city in Europe after London and Berlin. Whether you are interested in Sport, Art, or History, Madrid has it all!

A number of metro stations surround CSIC, giving you easy access to the city’s biggest tourist attractions, as the city centre is only a 12 minute ride away.

Undoubtedly one of Madrid’s biggest attractions, the Bernabéu Stadium, home to the world famous Real Madrid football team, is less than one mile from CRYO2018! The stadium offers tours which take in a panoramic view of the stadium, the tunnel and dugouts, Real Madrid’s dressing room and more!

Art lovers are spoilt for choice, with a number of galleries devoted to Spain’s most famous artists from the 15th-20th centuries. Take in Goya and Velasquez at the Prado Museum, or visit the Reina Sofia Museum for 20th century Spanish art including Picasso’s most famous work, Guernica, and more than 20 works by surrealist painter and sculptor Dali.

Alternatively, enjoy the Spanish Summer and take a stroll in El Retiro Gardens, laid out in the 17th century by Felipe IV, or around Plaza Mayor, Madrid’s largest and grandest town square.

If you arrive a few days before the meeting begins you have the opportunity to see the world famous annual San Fermin festival (the running of the bulls) in Pamplona, taking place July 6-14, 2018. Pamplona is only a three hour train ride away, making this one item you have to tick off your bucket list.

Madrid lies exactly in the centre of Spain, making it the ideal departure point for a range of post-conference tourist opportunities, such as visiting Spain’s famous Middle-Eastern Alhambra, former Royal Palace and birthplace of Katherine of Aragon, which dates back to the mid-13th century, or visiting Spain’s second largest city, Barcelona, home to the UNESCO World Heritage designated architecture of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Alternatively, cross the border into Portugal and regale your tastebuds at the world’s most famous port manufacturers. Thanks to Spain’s high speed train network, you can travel to any of these destinations with ease and comfort.

We look forward to hosting you in Madrid!
