Anja Thalhammer studied biology at the Free University in Berlin, and joined the Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology where she completed her diploma thesis (2008) and her PhD (2013), studying the structure-function relationship of LEA proteins. Following this she joined the Department of Physical Biochemistry at the University of Potsdam as a postdoctoral researcher. Since 2017 she is a junior research group leader in the same department.
Anja Thalhammer’s research areas are protein folding and assembly and the concomitant interactions of proteins with macromolecular partners using biophysical, biochemical and molecular-biological approaches. One of her research objectives is to understand basic aspects of LEA protein function, amongst other aiming for improved functionality in a biotechnological context.
